OTA Artist in Residence
What’s OAIR?
Ota Artist in Residence is an artist residence program held in Ota, Tokyo that includes events for anyone to join and enjoy. The details of the events this fall (September to November of 2014) are here.
What’s artist in residence?
It is a program in which artists of various disciplines are invited to a place or an area and sojourn for a period of time to create and present their works.
The goals of OAIR
We, OAIR, embrace “art” that resides in people’s hearts. We believe that art vitalizes our lives and environment. Through the art making in our program, the invited artists’ perspectives and the citizens’ ideas jointly create new use of our local resources and promote the charm of our city.
How may OAIR be different from some other artist-in-residence programs?
• It emphasizes its mission to enhance the local living environment on top of supporting artists’ creation.
• At OAIR invited artists and local residents together are encouraged to create new use of area resources.
• OAIR designs its programs to promote creative interactions between invited artists and local residents.
• OAIR aims at making art-making accessible not only for existing art fans but also for broader local residents in Ota.
Steering body
OAIR is organized by Oomori Community developmental association, a non-profit organization aimed at “finding, creating and communicating the charm of our city”.
